about

Guy Garvey's dad termed Bryan Glancy the Seldom Seen Kid and one of Manchester's most influential singer songwriters spawned a Mercury Nominated and then Winning LP. Some 5 years after that significant release Ugly Man records is making available one of Bryan's most beautiful recordings from the days when elbow was another band struggling for an audience and building their name on the Manchester scene.

My Love was heavily influenced by another of Bryan's many friends - David Gray and his breakthrough LP White Ladder. Bryan had encouraged David to follow the solo writer path and worked closely with David as he built his followings in the States and Ireland before White Ladder went platinum worldwide. My Love adds a new twist to Bryan's plaintive guitar and barbed sense of love.

Don't sell me, the B side nods more in the direction of Glancy's other band The Mouth. They were: Bryan and his friends John Bramwell, Peter Jobson and Andy Hargreaves. When The Mouth separated, the other 3 went on to form the now Mercury Nominated I am Kloot. Many still hear striking similarities from Bryan's art in the Kloot back catalogue.

about

Ugly Man Records Conwy, UK

Ugly Man Records was established in 1986 with the début release of Wonderful Life, by Liverpool band Black. We gave Jon Ronson his first proper job, and we have taken on multi-nationals and governments and won. But best of all, we are still here promoting great music. ... more
